With over 35 years’ experience as both in-house and external corporate counsel; as former head of the commercial division of a national law firm; and through the development of long term trusted relationships, Director & Principal, Alan Read, has been engaged as advisor to a range of high profile commercial clients to achieve the most appropriate solutions for their specific needs.
As legal counsel for the Motorola Corporation from 1980 until 1997, Alan was responsible for the Australasian operations. This role included variously the positions of Company Secretary, Treasurer, Manager Government Relations and Distribution Controller.
From 1995 to 2000 Alan was a Partner with Scanlan Carroll Business Lawyers and thereafter until 2007 was a Partner with Dibbs Abbott Stillman Lawyers where he served as Head of the Commercial Division and as a member of the National Trade Practices and Information Technology practice groups.
Since establishing Redvers Read in 2008 and now with Lanyon Partners Legal, Alan has continued to support a range of long standing clients including the University of Melbourne; First National Group of Independent Real Estate Agents; Rubicon Water; Australian Council of Private Education & Training; and FoodWorks Supermarkets.
Principal Lawyer, Greg Thomas, has more than 30 years’ experience as a commercial lawyer and holds a combined Law/ Commerce degree.
Back in the mid-2000s Greg and Alan Read our Legal Director and Principal were in partnership together at Dibbs Abbott Stillman (now Thomson Geer) where Greg was an invaluable and highly personable senior member of the commercial team. Greg has acted for both corporate and private clients across a broad range of industries including childcare, retail, food and hospitality agricultural, professional services, real estate and manufacturing.
Greg has knowledge in providing strategic business and commercial advice to owners of private and family businesses in areas such as mergers and acquisitions; restructuring; business succession planning and asset protection. His private advisory practice includes advising on aged care and estate planning matters.
Greg also specialises in franchising law, advising both franchisors and franchisees on all aspects of franchising, including the preparation of documentation, the setting-up of franchise systems and networks, franchise acquisitions and transfers and advice regarding Franchising Code of Conduct and Competition and Consumer Act compliance.
Jess was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Victoria in February 2012 and had previously completed a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce at Deakin University as well as a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at Leo Cussen Centre for Law. Jess joined the firm in March 2012 as a first year lawyer. During her studies, Jess undertook several seasonal clerkships with Redvers Read.
Jess works predominantly in commercial law, but also in intellectual property, corporate governance, employment law and civil litigation. Jess is a member of the University Ski Club Committee and the Law Institute of Victoria Young Lawyers Community Issues Committee.
Alexandra has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Behavioral Science (Psychology) from Flinders University. She has also recently completed a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at Leo Cussens Centre for Law.
